Bulls staged a strong comeback on Dalal Street as benchmark indices erased the previous week’s losses, rallying more than 2.5 percent to post their biggest weekly gain in nearly four months. The sharp rebound was driven by better-than-expected June-quarter earnings, a firmer rupee, and the return of foreign institutional. Investor confidence was further boosted by the healthy progress of the southwest monsoon and a sharp correction in Brent crude prices to around $87 per barrel, despite heightened geopolitical tensions following the escalation of the US-Iran conflict.<\/p>

For the week, the BSE Sensex surged 2,034.87 points, or 2.67%, to close at 78,094.64, while the Nifty 50 rallied 616.15 points, or 2.59%, to settle at 24,383.60.<\/p>

Sectoral performance was broadly positive during the week, with Nifty IT emerging as the top performer, rallying 6.75%, recording best weekly gains since December 2023. It was followed by Nifty Media (5.97%), Nifty Auto (5.61%), Nifty Pharma (3.86%), Nifty Healthcare (3.20%), and Nifty Consumer Durables (2.89%). However, Nifty Defence and Nifty Energy bucked the trend, ending the week marginally lower.<\/p>

The Nifty Smallcap 100 index advanced 2.6 percent during the week and The Nifty Midcap 100 index rose 2 percent during the week.<\/p>

The total market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies surged by more than \u20b910 lakh crore during the week, driven by broad-based buying across equities amid strong investor sentiment. Bajaj Finance emerged as the biggest wealth creator during the week. It was followed by Bharti Airtel, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and Reliance Industries, which also registered sharp gains in market value. On the losing side, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, Bharat Electronics (BEL), and Hindustan Unilever (HUL) were among the biggest drags on market capitalisation during the week. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) snapped their two-week selling streak by purchasing equities worth \u20b95,949.96 crore during the week. Meanwhile, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) continued to lend support to the market, although at a slower pace, investing \u20b95,387.66 crore in equities.<\/p>

The Indian rupee snapped a five-week losing streak, appreciating by 118 paise to close at 95.39 against the US dollar on July 31, compared with 96.57 in the previous week.
