Every time you buy or sell shares, Flattrade generates a Contract Note<\/b>. Think of it as your official receipt<\/b> for the day’s trading. It tells you what you bought or sold, at what price, and what charges were applied.<\/p>

Many investors only look at the final amount, but understanding the contract note helps you verify your trades and know exactly where your money went.<\/p>

What is a Contract Note?<\/b><\/h2>

A Contract Note cum Tax Invoice<\/b> is an official document issued by Flattrade after your trades are executed.<\/p>

It serves two purposes:<\/p>

  • Proof of your trades<\/b> \u2013 It confirms what you bought or sold, the quantity, price, and trade time.<\/li>
  • Tax invoice<\/b> \u2013 It shows all applicable charges such as STT, GST, stamp duty, and exchange transaction charges.<\/li><\/ul>

    Unlike the instant trade confirmation you receive in the app or by SMS, the contract note is the final and legally valid record<\/b> of your trades.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

    If you make at least one trade during the day, Flattrade generates a contract note for that trading day. You will receive it on T+1.<\/p>

      • Settlement Number<\/li>
      • Settlement Date<\/li><\/ul>

        If you traded stocks, this section shows one row for each stock.<\/p>

        You’ll see:<\/p>

        • ISIN – A unique 12-character alphanumeric code used to identify a specific security<\/li>
        • Stock name – The name or symbol of the security that was bought or sold.<\/li>
        • Buy Section: Quantity bought<\/li>
        • Sell Section: Quantity sold<\/li>
        • Brokerage per share<\/li>
        • WAP (Weighted Average Price)<\/b><\/li><\/ul>

          Instead of showing every order separately, Flattrade combines multiple trades in the same stock into one average price.<\/p>

          For example:<\/p>

          • Bought 10 shares at \u20b9100<\/li>
          • Bought another 10 shares at \u20b9110<\/li><\/ul>

            Your WAP becomes \u20b9105<\/b>.<\/p>

            • Total Buy Value After Brokerage = (WAP\u00a0 * Quantity of share bought)\u00a0 + Brokerage<\/li><\/ul>

              Since Flattrade offers Zero Brokerage<\/b>, the WAP After Brokerage<\/b> remains the same as the WAP.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

                • WAP<\/strong> –\u00a0 The Weighted Average Price (WAP) for common contracts across exchanges is calculated using the following formula:
                  WAP = (Total buy\/sell trade value for common contract across exchanges) \/ (Total quantity bought\/sold across exchanges)<\/li>
                • For other derivative contracts, the WAP is calculated as:
                  WAP = (Total buy\/sell trade value of contract) \/ (Total quantity bought\/sold)<\/li>
                • Brokerage per unit<\/strong><\/li>
                • WAP Per unit after brokerage\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>
                • Closing Rate per Unit<\/strong><\/li>
                • \u00a0Net Total ( Before Levies)\u00a0<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>

                  Notes :<\/strong><\/p>

                  You may also notice remarks such as Auto Square Off<\/b> if your position was closed automatically due to insufficient margin.<\/p>

                  If you only invest in stocks, you may not see this section.<\/p>

                  WAP for trades in the derivative segment<\/h4>

                  • B (Buy):<\/strong> Indicates that you purchased shares, contracts, or securities.<\/p><\/li>

                  • S (Sell):<\/strong> Indicates that you sold shares, contracts, or securities.<\/p><\/li>

                  • BF (Brought Forward):<\/strong> Represents a position carried forward from the previous trading day.<\/p><\/li>

                  • CF (Carried Forward):<\/strong> Represents a position that remains open and is carried forward to the next trading day.<\/p><\/li>

                  • Where You’ll See Them:<\/strong> B<\/strong> and S<\/strong> are common in equity trading, while BF<\/strong> and CF<\/strong> are typically seen in Futures & Options (F&O) or other carry-forward positions.<\/p><\/li>

                  • CE (Call Option)<\/strong> \u2013 Indicates a Call contract,\u00a0<\/p><\/li>

                  • PE (Put Option)<\/strong> \u2013 Indicates a Put\u00a0contract.<\/p><\/li><\/ul>

                    Settlement Number<\/strong><\/td>Unique number assigned to the settlement cycle by the exchange.<\/td><\/tr>
                    Pay In\/Pay Out Obligation<\/strong><\/td>Amount you need to pay (DR<\/strong>) or will receive (CR<\/strong>) after settlement.<\/td><\/tr>
                    Taxable Value of Supply (SEBI TOC)<\/strong><\/td>Transaction charges collected by SEBI on your trades.<\/td><\/tr>
                    Taxable Value of Supply (TOC NSE Exchange)<\/strong><\/td>Exchange transaction charges levied by NSE.<\/td><\/tr>
                    IGST @18%<\/strong><\/td>GST charged on brokerage and applicable transaction charges.<\/td><\/tr>
                    Stamp Duty<\/strong><\/td>Government stamp duty charged on the purchase side of trades.<\/td><\/tr>
                    Securities Transaction Tax (STT)<\/strong><\/td>Tax levied by the Government of India on securities transactions.<\/td><\/tr>
