Indian indices closed higher on Thursday, helped by gains in index heavyweights such as Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, ITC and Airtel. The Nifty closed 0.22% higher at 16,294.60 and the Sensex ended 0.23% higher at 54,492.84.
Some of the top gainers were Reliance Industries (1.45%), HDFC Bank (1.33%), ITC (3.19%) and Airtel (4.23%). Top losers in Nifty index were SBI (-3.30%), IndusInd Bank (-2.24%), Baja Finance (-1.74%), ICICI Bank (-1.71%).
The broader markets underperformed their larger peers. The BSE MidCap index was little changed, while the SmallCap index in BSE fell about 0.5%.
Indian rupee closed flat at 74.17 against the US dollar on Thursday.
Earnings Update
Arvind Limited: The apparel maker reported a consolidated net loss of Rs 11.42 crore for Apr-Jun quarter in 2021, as against a net loss of Rs 97.31 crore in the same quarter last year. The company’s operating revenue increased 140% to Rs 1,439.43 crore in first quarter of FY22, from Rs 599.28 crore in the corresponding quarter of previous year. It textile’s business grew 170% to Rs 1176 crore in the quarter. th company’s net debt expanded to Rs 2141 crore for the quarter ended June 2021, versus Rs 1950 crore in the previous qurter ended March.
