Market Opening - An Overview

Nifty futures on the Singapore Exchange were trading 0.08% higher at 17,114, signalling that Dalal Street was headed for a muted start on Thursday.

The Indian rupee lost 7 paise to end at 73.08 against the US dollar on Wednesday.

Asian shares opened lower in early trade on Thursday as broader indices Japan’s Topix fell 0.21% and China’s CSI 300 dropped 0.23%.

Stocks in News Today

State Bank of India: The bank has raised Rs 4,000 crore in capital through the Basel compliant Additional Tier 1 (AT1) bonds and the coupon rate has been fixed at 7.72%. The fresh capital would boost the bank’s capital adequacy ratio (CAR) and replace AT1 bonds which are maturing in the current financial year.

Axis Bank: The lender has been fined Rs 25 lakhs by the RBI for flouting KYC compliance rules. The measures taken was based on deficiencies in regulatory compliance and does not pronounce upon the validity of any transaction or agreement, the central bank said. Meanwhile, the bank has fixed the price for dollar denominated additional tier I bonds (AT1 bonds) at 4.1%, which is lower than the initial guidance of 4.4%, as it plans to raise funds of $600 million through these bonds. 

Indian Hotels Company Limited: The firm introduced its newest membership club, Taj The Chambers, in London as part of a wider Re-imagined worldwide drive for India’s leading hospitality brand. Its MD and CEO Puneet Chhatwal announced the opening of the new exclusive wing within the Taj 51 Buckingham Gate Suites and Residences in London at a special ceremony on Tuesday evening.

NHPC: The company plans to obtain its shareholders’ approval to raise borrowing limit by Rs 10,000 crore to Rs 40,000 crore in the annual general meeting on September 29, 2021. The company said that the limit of Rs 30,000 crore is required to be increased as the company requires funds due to rapid capacity addition programme. 

Coal India: The company produced 42.6 million tonnes of coal in August, an increase of 14.6% compared to the corresponding month of the previous fiscal. The rise in production comes amid reports of coal shortages in thermal power generation units across the country. 

Vedanta Limited: The company said it has obtained board’s approval to disburse an interim dividend of Rs 18.50 per share for FY22, amounting to Rs 6,877 crore. The record date has been set on September 9, 2021 for the purpose of payment of this dividend. In its exchange filing, the company also said that the record date of August 26, 2021 as initiated earlier stands called off.
