Market Opening - An Overview
Nifty futures on the Singapore Exchange traded 0.2% higher at 17,718, signalling that Dalal Street was headed for positive start on Tuesday.
Asian shares were trading higher following overnight gains in Wall Street. The benchmark Nikkei 225 index jumped 1.38% and the Topix index added 0.94%. The Hang Seng rose 0.88% and the CSI 300 index rose 0.12%.
Indian rupee fell 9 paise to 81.98 against the US dollar on Monday.

State Bank of India (SBI): The country’s largest lender said its Executive Committee of the Central Board will be meeting on April 18 to consider the long term fund raising in single or multiple tranches of up to $2 billion, through a public offer and/or private placement of senior unsecured notes in US dollar or any other convertible foreign currency during FY24.
JSW Steel: The company announced that its consolidated crude steel production stood at 6.58 million metric tonnes (MMT) in Q4FY23, registering a growth of 13% compared with 5.81 MMT in Q4FY22. The rise in crude steel production was mainly driven by improved capacity utilisation at the Indian operations. On full year basis, consolidated crude steel production jumped 24% to 24.15 MMT in FY23 as compared with 19.51 MMT registered in FY22.
Vedanta: The company is going to consider issuance of NCDs (non-convertible debentures) on a private placement basis on April 13. In addition, the Supreme Court has permitted Vedanta to carry out the activities at copper smelter plant at Thoothukodi, Tamil Nadu, for its upkeep, after considering the report of the High Powered Expert Committee and recommendations of the state government.
Bank of Baroda: The total business of the public sector lender crossed Rs 21 lakh crore milestone, rising 16.8% YoY to Rs 21.77 lakh crore in the quarter ended March FY23. Total advances grew by 19% YoY to Rs 9.74 lakh crore as of March 2023, and deposits rose by 15.1% YoY to Rs 12.04 lakh crore. CASA increased 7.9% to Rs 4.42 lakh crore.Further, the bank said it will raise lending rates for overnight and one-year loans in by 5 basis points, with effect from April 12.
IRB Infrastructure Developers: The highway construction company has recorded toll collection at Rs 369.9 crore for the month of March 2023, growing 20.6% over toll collection of Rs 306.6 crore in same month last year. The growth was 5.2% compared to February 2023.
Shilpa Medicare: The pharma company has received final approval from US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for its ANDA, Apremilast tablets, which are available in 10 mg, 20 mg, and 30 mg strengths. The drug is used for the treatment of adult patients with active psoriatic arthritis. Apremilast is a generic equivalent of reference listed drug OTEZLA of Celgene.
Schaeffler India: The ball and rolling bearing manufacturer will trade ex-dividend with effect from April 11. The company has announced final dividend of Rs 24 per share.
Star Health and Allied Insurance Company: The company’s gross direct premium increased 13% to Rs 12,950.9 crore in the year till March. Health (retail) premiums increased 18% to Rs 11,947.5 crore, while health (group) declined 31% to Rs 807.5 crore. Overseas and travel segment saw premiums grow to Rs 2 crore, while personal accident premiums jumped 15% to Rs 193.9 crore.
L&T Technology Services: The IT services company has agreed to pay $9.93 million (Rs 81.4 crore) to the U.S. Department of Justice to settle allegations of underpaying visa fees between 2014 and 2019. The company acquired inexpensive B-1 visas rather than the more-expensive H-1B visas in alleged violation of the False Claims Act, the department said in a statement on Monday.
Cipla: The pharma company has signed an agreement with Novartis Pharma to manufacture and market Galvus, a drug used in treatment of type 2 diabetes.
Kalpataru Power Transmission: The company and its international subsidiaries secured new orders and notification of awards worth Rs 3,079 core during March and till date in April.
Shilpa Medicare: The company received final approval from the US drug regulator for its Apremilast tablets, which are used in the treatment of adult patients with active psoriatic arthritis.
Neogen Chemicals: The board approved signing an agreement with Japan-based MU Ionic Solutions Corporation to acquire manufacturing technology license for electrolytes in India.
Delta Corp: The gaming and hospitality corporation will be in focus ahead of its March FY23 quarter earnings. The company will also likely to consider dividend payout.
