Gift Nifty indicates a negative start for the broader index in India, with a loss of 126.50 points or 0.49 percent. The Nifty futures were trading around the 25,724.50 level.
Wall Street indexes fell sharply on Thursday, with the technology-heavy Nasdaq slumping 2%, as investors intensified their selloff of tech shares and fled transport stocks amid worries about artificial intelligence disruption.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 669.42 points, or 1.34%, to 49,451.98, the S&P 500 gave up 108.71 points, or 1.57%, to 6,832.76, and the Nasdaq Composite lost 469.32 points, or 2.03%, to 22,597.15.
Asian equities retreated from a record after concerns over the impact of artificial intelligence on various sectors spurred a selloff in US technology stocks and sent investors to the safety of Treasuries.
Japan’s Nikkei, Singapore’s Straits Times, and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng, indicated a negative start with -0.77, -1.08, and -1.60 percent, respectively.
