Benchmark Indian stock indices snapped three days of losses and closed higher on Thursday, led by gains in metal, IT and PSU bank stocks. The Sensex closed 0.40% up at 52,653.07 and Nifty advanced 0.44% to 15,778.45.
In the metal sector, Hindalco (10.04%), NALCO (8.7%) and Tata Steel (6.86%) were the top three gainers. Among IT stocks, Coforge (9.04%), L&T Infotech (6.48%), MindTree (3.20%), Mphasis (3.16%), HCL Tech (2.49%) and Infosys (0.71%) pushed the index higher.
The Indian rupee gained 10 paise to 74.24 against the US dollar.
The India VIX fell 5.45% to 12.945 levels.
Earnings Update
Colgate-Palmolive India: The company reported a 17.7% rise in its PAT to Rs 233.2 crore in April-June quarter of FY22, as against Rs 198.2 crore in same period of FY21. Its net sales rose 12% to Rs 1158 crore in the quarter, from Rs 1033.6 crore last year. The company’s cost of material consumed increased by 28.3%. Shares of the company closed 4.62% down at Rs 1709.50.
