Market Opening - An Overview
SGX Nifty futures were trading 0.32% higher at 15,871.50, signalling that Dalal Street was headed for a positive start on Tuesday. The Sensex closed 0.23% lower at 52,852.27 and Nifty edged down 0.20% to 15,824.45 on Monday.
The Indian rupee dropped 2 paise to 74.42 against the US dollar.
Asian shares edged higher in early trade on Tuesday, tracking Wall Street indices, which ended higher on Monday ahead of the Federal Reserve’s two-day monetary policy meeting, which ends on Wednesday.

Tata Motors: The automakers reported a loss of Rs 4450 crore in the first quarter of FY22, compared with a loss of Rs 8444 crore in the same period last year. The company’s revenue rose to Rs 66,406 crore in the quarter, from Rs 31,983 crore Q1 of FY21. Jaguar Land Rover posted a sales of 4.96 billion pound sterling, up 73.7% on year-on-year basis.
Larsen & Toubro: The construction major posted a net profit of Rs 1174 crore for the quarter ended June, from Rs 303 crore in the year-ago period. The company’s sales rose 38% to Rs 29,334.73 crore on year-on-year basis. The company’s order book rose 13% to Rs 26,557 crore in the quarter on a yearly basis
Axis Bank: The private sector lender posted a net profit of Rs 2160 crore in Apr-Jun quarter, up 94% from corresponding period last year. The bank’s net interest income rose 11% to Rs 7760 crore in the quarter, from Rs 6985 crore in Q1 of FY21. Its net NPA stood at 1.2% in the quarter, as against 1.05% in the previous quarter ended March.
GlaxoSmithKline: The pharmaceutical company’s consolidated net profit rose 9.24% to Rs 121.08 crore in Apr-Jun quarter, from Rs 110.83 crore in the corresponding period of FY21. The company’s operating revenue rose to Rs 789.99 crore in the quarter, from Rs 648.59 crore in the year-ago period.
