Indian equity indices flat to positive ending; Sectoral indices also ended in mixed; Broader market indices ended in red

POST MARKET

Benchmarks Sensex and Nifty staged sharp recovery on May 18, Sensex closed 77.05 points or 0.1% higher at 75,315.04, and the Nifty ended 6.45 points or 0.03% higher at 23,649.95. About 1,216 shares advanced, 2,891 shares declined, and 182 shares were unchanged.

Among the sectoral indices, Nifty Media crashed 2.24%, followed by Nifty PSU Bank (down 1.92%), Consumer Durables (down 1.80%), and Auto (down 1.71%). Bank Nifty fell 0.32%. On the other hand, Nifty IT jumped 2.43%. The pharma pack also rose by half a per cent.

The mid and small-cap segments underperformed. The BSE 150 Midcap index fell 0.43%, while the BSE 250 Smallcap index crashed 1.71%

Bharti Airtel
Bharti Airtel shares rose up to 2% on May 18 to trade at Rs 1,953.8 apiece, taking the market capitalisation to nearly Rs 12 lakh crore.
Bharti Airtel overtook HDFC Bank on May 18 to become second most valued Indian company in terms of market capitalisation.

Gland Pharma
Shares of Gland Pharma high more than 15 percent on Monday after the company reported a strong set of March quarter earnings.

Hindustan Aeronautics
Stocks of Hindustan Aeronautics fell nearly 1.46 per cent on Monday, extending losses to over 11 per cent in the last three sessions, as weaker-than-expected March quarter earnings and continued concerns over delayed Tejas Mk1A deliveries weighed on investor sentiment.

Tata Steel
Shares of Tata Steel fell more than 3 per cent in trade on Monday after the company reported a March quarter profit that came in below analysts’ estimates.
