Market Opening - An Overview

SGX Nifty futures were trading 0.32% higher at 17,431, signalling that Dalal Street was headed for a positive start on Tuesday.

The Indian rupee fell 18 paise to 73.68 against the US dollar on Monday.

India’s inflation measured by Consumer Price Index eased to 5.3% in August from 5.59% in July, according to government data released on Monday evening.

Asian markets were mixed as Japanese indices rose, tracking positive lead from Wall Street, while Chinese indices fell. Japan’s Nikkei and Topix rose 0.38% and 0.41%, respectively. China’s Hang Seng slipped 0.10% and CSI 300 was down 0.21%.

State Bank of India & Vodafone Idea: The lender had asked the Indian government to give the telecom company some more time to pay off of its dues related to tax and spectrum fees, according to a Reuters news report. SBI officials and representatives of the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) met officials of department of finance and telecom, and proposed an immediate breather on the repayment of spectrum dues, the two bankers and the government official, who requested anonymity, said.

Infosys: The IT major and Microsoft has signed a multi-year strategic engagement deal with Ausgrid to accelerate the cloud transformation of the largest electricity distributor on Australia’s east coast. This deal will help Ausgrid fulfil its vision to connect communities and empower lives with a focus on affordability, reliability and sustainability, Infosys said in a regulatory filing. Separately, Infosys will announce its financial results for the September quarter and the company’s board will also consider declaration of interim dividend, if any, on October 13, according to its regulatory filing.

Tata Motors: The automaker has launched the CNG version of its light commercial vehicle Tata 407 at Rs12.07 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune). The vehicle offers profits of up to 35% compared with its diesel variant. The vehicle has a 10-feet load deck and added strength to the company’s extensive CNG portfolio.

Tata Consultancy Services: The IT services company has announced one of its largest recruitment drives for hiring women with the TCS ‘Rebegin’ project. The project is aimed at experienced and aspiring women who wish to jump-start their professional journey and make ‘The Big Move’.

Avenue Supermart: The company which owns DMart chain of stores has entered Haryana with the opening of a modern store at BPTP Parklands in Faridabad. Built on a plot size of 1.57 acre, the store in Sector 75 has three floors with a total built up area of 94,000 sq feet. This is the second DMart store in NCR, the first one being in Ghaziabad.

InterGlobe Aviation: IndiGo Airlines which is owned by InterGlobe said that it will start 38 domestic flights in September, improving accessibility between metros and tier-2 or tier-3 cities. IndiGo will operate new flights between Raipur-Pune, and it will restart flights between Lucknow-Ranchi, Bengaluru-Vishakhapatnam, Chennai-Indore, Lucknow- Raipur, Mumbai-Guwahati, and Ahmedabad-Indore.
