Market Opening - An Overview

Nifty futures on Singapore Exchange were trading 0.28% lower at 16,481.50, signalling that Dalal Street was headed for a negative start on Monday. Nifty 50 on Friday crossed 16,500 level, forming a bullish candle on both daily and weekly time frames.

Indian rupee ended 74.24 against the US dollar on Friday.

Asian shares opened lower as rising coronavirus cases in Japan continued to weigh on the markets. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan’s Nikkei tanked 1.35%.

Vodafone Idea: The telecom operator’s net loss narrowed 71% to Rs 7,319 crore in Apr-Jun quarter of FY22, compared with a net loss of Rs 25,460 crore due to provisioning for adjusted gross revenue dues liability. Gross revenue fell 14.1% to Rs 9152 crore due to fall in subscribers. The company lost 12.4 million subscribers during the quarter and its customer base stood at 255.4 million subscribers. EBITDA declined 9.5% on a year-on-year basis to Rs 3707 crore in Q1FY22.

Grasim industries: The company’s consolidated operating revenue rose to Rs 19,919.40 crore in Apr-Jun quarter of FY22, from Rs 13,043.51 crore in the year-ago period. The company’s net profit improved to Rs 2447.97 crore in Q1FY22, up four-fold from Rs 616.99 crore in Q1FY21. Total expenses rose to Rs 16853.28 crore in the quarter, from Rs 12330.93 crore in the year-ago period.

Oil and Natural Gas Corp: The public-sector enterprise reported a net profit of Rs 4,335 crore in April-June quarter of FY22, from Rs 497 crore in Q1FY21. The company’s gross revenue rose 77% to Rs 23,022 crore. The company’s crude oil production fell nearly 5% to 5.4 million tonnes in the quarter, while natural gas output was 4.3% lower at 5.3 billion cubic metres.

Sun TV Network Ltd: The broadcaster posted a consolidated profit after tax (PAT) of Rs 365.03 crore in Apr-Jun quarter of FY22, as against a PAT of Rs 257.21 crore in the year-ago period. Revenue from operations rose to Rs 818.87 crore in the quarter, from Rs 611.51 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal. Total expenses were at Rs 371.80 crore in Q1FY22.

Apollo Hospitals Enterprise: The company reported a profit after tax (PAT) of Rs 489 crore in Q1FY22, compared with a net loss of Rs 208 crore in the same period last year. Its consolidated operating revenue rose to Rs 3,760 crore in the quarter, from Rs 2,171 crore in the Q1FY21. Its total expenses increased to Rs 3475 crore during the quarter from Rs 2423 crore in the year-ago period.

Amara Raja Batteries Ltd: The company’s profit before tax rose to Rs 167 crore in Q1FY22, from Rs 84 crore in the same period of previous fiscal. Revenue stood at Rs 1,886 crore during the quarter, as against Rs 1,151 crore in the year-ago period. Earnings per share for Q1FY22 was Rs 7.26.

Future Retail: the company posted a loss of Rs 1147 crore in the first quarter of FY22, as against Rs 553 crore loss during the year-ago period. The company’s revenue stood at Rs 1406 crore in the quarter, compared with Rs 1355 crore in the corresponding quarter of last year. The company said in a statement to the exchanges that the pandemic has created economic disruptions impacting revenue and profitability for the quarter ended June FY22.
