Market Opening - An Overview

Nifty futures on the Singapore Exchange were trading 0.16% higher at 17,857, signalling that Dalal Street was headed for a positive opening on Friday.

Most Asian stock indices were trading lower on Friday, as investors awaited developments on the fate of debt-ridden Chinese property giant Evergande. China’s Shanghai Composite index declined 0.12% and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 0.55%. Japan’s Nikkei rose 1.82%.

The Indian rupee rose by 23 paise to end at 73.64 against the US dollar on Thursday.

YES Bank & Dish TV: The private-sector lender and the largest shareholder of Dish TV, has asked the satellite television service provider to hold an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) of shareholders and act on its recommendations to reconstitute the company’s board. The extension sought by DisH TV is based on “unfounded reasons” and Dish TV is engaging in “dilatory tactics” in placing the resolutions to remove its Managing Director Jawahar Goel along with four other directors, according to YES Bank.

Adani, Reliance Industries & Tata: About 19 firms including Adani, Reliance Industries and Tata have showed interest for setting up solar manufacturing units under government’s production linked incentive scheme. The scheme is aimed at adding 10,000 MW manufacturing capacity of integrated solar photovoltaic modules with direct investment of Rs 17,200 crore.

Karur Vysya Bank: The private-sector lender said in a regulatory filing that it has cut the base rate and the benchmark prime lending rate to 8% and 13 per cent, respectively, with effect from Friday. Both the rates have been slashed by 0.45% each.

Reliance Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea: Reliance Jio, owned by Reliance Industries, gained subscriber by adding 65 lakh users in July, according to the latest data by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. In the same month, Airtel continued its subscriber addition by 19 lakh, while Vodafone Idea lost 14 lakh users. The total wireless subscribers grew 0.51 per cent from 118.08 crore at the end of June to 118.68 crore at the end of July.

UltraTech Cement: The cement maker said it has joined the RE100 initiative and targets 100% renewable energy usage by 2050. In the last two years, the company has increased its contracted renewable energy capacity by 2.5 times. The company also aims to increase its green energy mix to 34% of its total power requirement by 2024, from the current levels of 13%.

Vedanta: The mining company said it will delist its American depositary shares and concentrate all of its trading of equity shares on the BSE and NSE. The company’s board of directors has taken the decision after the recent low trading volume of its ADS on the NYSE and the associated costs of maintaining the listing and related obligations.
