Market Opening - An Overview

SGX Nifty futures were trading 0.59% higher at 17,656.50, signalling that Dalal Street was likely headed for a gap-up opening on Thursday.

The Indian rupee ended lower by 26 paise to close at 73.87 against the US dollar on Wednesday.

Asian shares rose, supported by some positive developments with respect to the struggling developer China Evergrande Group. China’s CSI 300 index was up 0.90% and Hang Seng jumped 1.47%. Elsewhere, Japan’s Nikkei fell 0.67% and Topix was down 1.02%.

Wall Street closed higher on Wednesday after the Fed Chair Jerome Powell signalled that the central bank may announce a pullback of its bond purchases in November and also start to raise interest rates in 2022, which was expected by investors.

Infosys Ltd: The IT services major said it has collaborated with Amazon Web Services to develop quantum computing capabilities and use cases. As part of Infosys Cobalt cloud offerings, the IT firm will use ‘Amazon Braket’ to explore and build multiple use cases in quantum computing.

Vodafone Idea: The telecom operator is confident it can reach a fundraising deal with potential investors, after the federal government’s relief package to the debt-ridden mobile carrier, its chief executive officer Ravinder Takkar said. He did not specify the names of investors the company was in talks with or a timeline for the fundraising.

IDFC Ltd: The company’s shareholders have rejected the re-appointment of Vinod Rai as non-independent and non-executive director to its board. About 62.3% of the shareholders voted against his re-appointment, according to the company’s filing.

MCX: The company would create a new post of chief operating officer, and the new appointment is expected to be announced by early next month, a top exchange official has said. Managing director and chief executive PS Reddy said that the company will have a new chief technology officer soon to replace the vacuum created by the sudden exit of Manav Jain.

MindTree Ltd: The company has appointed several key executive appointments to expand and expedite growth in Europe and Asia-Pacific, the company said in an exchange filing. The IT services company has appointed Klaus Seifert as head of Strategy for Europe and chief business officer for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Erik Julius Larsen has been appointed as chief business officer for Nordics and Benelux.
