Market Opening - An Overview
Nifty futures on the Singapore Exchange were trading 0.50% higher at 17,063.50, signalling that Dalal Street is likely to open higher on Thursday.
Asian shares rose, tracking its US counterpart as investors took cautious bets. Japan’s Nikkei rose 0.31%, Topix was up 0.44%, Hang Seng advanced 0.55% and CSI 300 gained 0.23%.
Indian rupee rose 5 paise to 75.55 against the US dollar on Wednesday.
RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said that the Indian economy is facing several headwinds from global factors and that the new Omicron variant of the coronavirus may derail economic recovery, according to MPC minutes released by the central bank on Wednesday. He added that there is still a slack with key drivers like private consumption remaining well below their pre-pandemic levels.

Kotak Mahindra Bank: The lender’s subsidiary Kotak Mahindra Prime has acquired the passenger vehicle financing portfolio of Ford Credit India, the Indian captive financing arm of Ford Motor company. The customers of Ford will transition to Kotak Prime in a planned manner over the next few months, as per the statement.
Airtel: The business-to-business unit of Bharti Airtel, which is known as Airtel Business, has collaborated with IBM to deploy a hybrid cloud solution for a group of Milk Producer Companies (MPCs) created by NDDB Dairy Services, according to a release. The hybrid cloud solution which leverages Airtel Cloud and IBM Power servers will host the ERP and other key applications to accelerate the digital transformation of the MPCs.
Tata Steel: Steel made at the company’s Port Talbot plant in Wales is behind the world’s largest offshore wind farm due to be completed by 2026, the Indian steel maker said. Tata Steel said hundreds of tonnes of its products, able to endure the harsh North Sea conditions, will be used for the giant wind farm project located 130 km off the north-east coast of England.
Vedanta Ltd: The mining company said it plans to raise up to Rs 1,000 crore by offering rated, secured, redeemable, non-cumulative, non-convertible debentures (NCDs). With respect to this, the company will hold a meeting of its duly constituted committee of the directors next week, Vedanta Ltd said in a regulatory filing.
